Nina Johansson

Nina Johansson is a Swedish artist and freeride painter whose work moves between semi-abstract landscapes, poetic abstraction and symbolic figuration. Working primarily with acrylics, oil pastel and charcoal, she creates layered paintings shaped by movement, intuition and emotional topography.

At the centre of her practice is the idea of glimmers: fleeting moments when the world suddenly feels more vivid, grounded and alive. Her paintings often emerge through tensions she returns to again and again: vulnerability and strength, stillness and movement, solitude and connection, the wild and the grounded.

Influenced by years of working with children’s rights, sustainability and human relationships, together with a life lived close to forests, the sea and the mountains, Johansson approaches nature not primarily as scenery, but as a state of being. Mountains, organic lines, circles, blooming forms, small figures and animals reappear throughout her work as fragments of an inner geography.

The recurring figure Mademoiselle Montagne acts as an alter ego moving between gravity and playfulness, resilience and rest.

For Johansson, painting is both grounding and liberating. The white canvas becomes a space of exploration much like freeride skiing through fresh snow: intuitive, physical and open to the unexpected. Her work invites a slower, more attentive way of seeing, where emotion, memory and landscape quietly intertwine.

Paintings where nature meets the inner landscape.

Art for a life full of wonder.

We all look up at the same moon, the same sun, the same starry sky. We walk the same earth and gaze out from the same mountains.

And yet, somehow, we humans manage to exclude one another, other living beings, and even the planet we call home.

As a parent of teenagers, I sometimes find it difficult to stay grounded and stand tall in the reality unfolding around us. I want to be a counterforce. To stand for something else. For inclusion, for kindness and for embracing one another, combined with integrity and the courage to speak up and act when it matters.

This painting is one such exclamation mark. One of many ways I use my voice and stand up for what I believe in.
